Samsung electronics have selected Intel processors to power the new version of its Galaxy tablet. The Android based product is one of the top sellers for the company and this is exactly what Intel needed to fuel its 23.7% year to date climb.

Samsung has chosen Intels Clover Trail mobile chip for at least one version of its Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 which competes with Apples iPad, stated a source familiar with the matter cited by Reuters.

The good news for Intel comes at the right time for the company as it races to establish itself in a mobile market after a slow start. The odd side of the partnership is that Samsung is a giant chip-maker too but considered a companys rival to take care of the Android mobile devices. Probably they have a good reason for it. “Intels Clover Trail+ delivers competitive performance and battery life with Qualcomm and Nvidia ARM chips” said Nathan Brookwood, principal analyst at Insight 64.

The main advantage of the chip is being the first one Atom version to support both Android and Windows 8 according to Brookwood. The South-Korea based report claimed Intel and Samsung intend to expand their partnership as Intel is hiring more chip developers.

The exponentially growing tablet share has hurt Intels core PC-based market . According to estimates tablets sales would outrun laptops this year and PC sales would fall by 8% in 2013.

The Galaxy 10.1 is supposed to support a dual core 1.60Ghz version of the Atom processor.
