The largest on-line retailer worldwide Amazon.com Inc is to open a fifth logistics center in Poland during the present year, according to a February 20th statement by the company. The new center may help insulate the e-commerce giants business operations from the risk of almost incessant labor strikes in Polands neighbor, Germany.

Amazon shares closed higher for a third consecutive session on Friday. The stock edged up 0.11% ($0.93) to $845.07, after touching an intraday high of $847.27 and also the highest level ever recorded. The prior all-time high was at $847.21, registered on October 6th 2016. In the week ended on February 19th the shares of the e-commerce giant added 2.13% to their market value compared to a week ago, which marked a second consecutive period of gains. The stock has extended its advance to 2.62% so far during the current month, following a 9.82% surge in January. The latter has been the best monthly performance since last April. For the entire 2016, Amazon shares gained 10.95%.

“Amazon has confirmed today that in the fourth quarter it will open a new logistics e-commerce center in Sosnowiec”, the e-commerce company said in a statement, cited by Reuters.

The retailer added over 2 500 jobs in Poland during 2016, after having invested over 3 billion Polish Zlotys ($737 million) in the EUs biggest eastern member since 2014.

More than 7 000 people are at present in full-time employment with Amazon in three of the retailers centers in western Poland. A fourth center was opened in the city of Szczecin last year.

At the same time, in Germany, the companys second largest market, Amazon employed approximately 11 000 warehouse personnel in 2016.
