United Parcel said it intended to establish a new package operations center worth $41 million in El Paso, Texas in order to sustain commerce in the North America Borderplex. According to UPS, the strategic investment is to support business activity in an area across Texas, New Mexico and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
United Parcel shares closed lower for a seventh consecutive trading session on Tuesday. The stock went down 0.52% ($0.59) to $112.71, after touching an intraday low at $109.75, or a price level not seen since August 1st 2017 ($109.65).
In the week ended on February 4th the shares of the package delivery company lost 12.24% of their market value compared to a week ago, which marked a third consecutive period of decrease. It has also been the steepest drop since the week ended on October 12th 2008.
The stock has extended its loss to 11.48% so far during the current month, following a 6.86% surge in January. The latter has been the fourth gain out of six months.
For the entire past year, United Parcel shares rose 3.93% following another 19.13% surge in 2016.
“El Paso is the gateway to one of the most important industrial corridors in the U.S. – Mexico trade lane. UPS is one of the pistons helping drive the economic growth engine in this community”, Craig Wiltz, UPS Vice President was quoted as saying.
According to CNN Money, the 20 analysts, offering 12-month forecasts regarding United Parcel’s stock price, have a median target of $137.00, with a high estimate of $147.00 and a low estimate of $79.00. The median estimate is a 21.55% surge compared to the closing price of $112.71 on February 6th.
The same media also reported that 18 out of 25 surveyed investment analysts had rated United Parcel’s stock as “Hold”, while 5 – as “Buy”. On the other hand, 1 analyst had recommended selling the stock.
