Acer Inc. surprised no one presenting the new 8″ tablet computer along with notebooks with touch screen feature running Microsofts Windows 8 operating system. The companys Iconia W3 tablet was accidentally leaked on the manufacturers website last month. Acers CEO Jim Wong said to the crowd at the fair that the Iconia aims to “bring the desktop into one hand” being “the only one-handed tablet in the world with Windows 8… created by a collaboration between Acer, Microsoft and Intel”.

The computer companies are trying to catch up with Apple and Samsung who dominate the mobile sector by innovative smartphones and tablets, shifting consumer tastes. The demand of desktop computers is reaching its low as the devices are believed to slump another 7.8% in the market this year. Market researchers from International Data Corporation cited by Bloomberg said tablets are supposed to overtake the market by 2015. Estimations for tablet market is indicating a 45% growth in the next two years.

However, Intel is not giving up on announcing new products which the company hopes would increase PC sales. The chip-manufacturer presented its new power-sipping Haswell. The chip design delivers 50% more battery life than previous model enabling manufacturers to produce lighter, more compact products. Intel Corp. whose processors run around 80% of worlds personal computers has less than 1% share on the mobile market of smartphones and tablets according to Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. cited by Bloomberg.

ARM Holdings Plc. who is involved in the most smartphone chips in the world announced new designs for mid-range handsets. The company most interesting gaming product includes a Razor laptop which according to the company is the thinnest 14″ computer on the market at 0.66″ (1.7cm).
