According to a February 23rd statement by Cigna Corporation (CI), Thomas McCarthy, the companys Chief Financial Officer, is to retire during the summer. The announcement came a week after the deal involving Cignas acquisition by larger rival Anthem Inc for the sum of $54 billion was blocked by the US Department of Justice.

Cigna shares closed higher for a third consecutive trading session on Thursday. The stock inched up 0.01% ($0.02) to $147.51, with the intraday high and the intraday low being at $147.75 and $147.11 respectively. In the week ended on February 19th the shares of the health service provider lost 1.37% of their market value compared to a week ago, which marked a second consecutive period of decline. The stock has extended its advance to 0.88% so far during the current month, following a 9.62% surge in January. The latter has been the best monthly performance since November 2016. For the entire past year, the shares of the health services company went down 8.84%.

Thomas McCarthy is to be succeeded by Eric Palmer, who currently occupies the position of Chief Financial Officer at Cignas global health, employer-based health care, group and supplemental insurance businesses.

According to Cignas statement, three other executives – Michael Triplet, Alan Muney and Christopher Hocevar, are expected to join the companys enterprise leadership team.
